Thank you very much for entrusting your child with XXXX this summer. Below, you will find comments from us, your child’s advisory group.

Advisory groups were designed as a means for a group of students to meet on a daily basis to reflect on daily activities, and to process and share their learning, feelings and challenges each day. Although students in each advisory group came from very diverse backgrounds, we worked together to develop a family-like camaraderie in which students were able to recognize the similarities in thoughts and feelings despite differences in backgrounds. Our role as advisors, along with the other teachers, counselors, and volunteers, was to create a safe environment in which students were able to be themselves. Furthermore, we sought to guide them through their growth to ensure that they maximized their learning from XXXX summer school, and recognize how to apply this learning as they grow beyond their time at XXXX.

ZZZZ was initially one of the more quiet and reserved members of the advisory, but within a few days he opened up and was able to connect with the group to become an indispensable member of the advisory. ZZZZ took the initiative in his design group, announcing important schedule changes and developments to the entire summer camp. The amount his confidence increased throughout the camp really impressed and inspired us as the program developed.

ZZZZ showed great teamwork skills and leadership in all of his classes, especially in Science and Society, where he directed his group towards practical solutions to environmental challenges. We really enjoyed hearing about ZZZZ’s school life and his passion for his school, and his education really reflected in his behaviour in and out of classes.

We feel incredibly lucky to have spent this time with ZZZZ and wish him the best of luck with his future.
